HISTORY

After serving in the local church for 17 years, David Edwards stepped out on faith and founded Wings of Morning in 1984 in Ventura, California. In the early days, the major ministry focus of Wings was supporting youth camps with music teams in southern California. The ministry of WINGS continued to grow as David pursued his God-given desire to offer young people a platform to use their gifts & talents to serve the Lord and edify the church.
In the late 80s, the ministry shifted towards a focus on the family unit and also functioned under the corporate name of Family Outreach Ministries. As the ministry grew in influence and breadth, a change of location became evident to better minister on the East coast. In 1993, the ministry uprooted from California and settled briefly in Lakeland, Florida. In 1996 the ministry moved to it’s current home in Woodstock, Georgia to have a more central location to the rest of the United States. During these changes and transitions, the true heart of Wings became evident. Missions has always been a focus of the ministry, but now had become the ultimate aim. In 1998 the ministry changed its corporate name to International Global Outreach to better define its goal toward reaching the world for Christ.
As the 21st century began, the focus of the ministry was further fine tuned to students and missions. Music was still an important aspect of the ministry, but was only a tool used to expose students to the mission field. God began to expand the vision for WINGS even further, requiring additional staff to assist in developing the ministry’s goals and programs, which involved changing the corporate name of the ministry to what it is known as today – WINGS Global Outreach. While the worship team continued singing in local churches, the ministry began dedicating more time on the road to student discipleship events. The area of international missions also became more strategic. By taking entire youth groups overseas, the goal of WINGS was to expose students to third world poverty, global evangelism, church planting, and humanitarian relief work.
Today, the ministry of WINGS Global Outreach continues to grow. Today, there are more than 80 Wings’ alumni who serve in full-time Christian ministries. WINGS has led over 60 mission projects in 30 countries around the world in its 25 years.
Although WINGS has seen some changes and experienced tremendous growth in opportunities through the years, the heartbeat of the ministry remains constant: equipping students to establish a biblical worldview and engaging them in missional living locally and globally.
